Hurricanes on the road in New Brunswick this weekend

November 8, 2018
The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams will be on the road this weekend in New Brunswick when they take on the Crandall Chargers in Moncton on Saturday, and the STU Tommies in Fredericton on Sunday.

This will be the first time that the Hurricanes basketball teams have met the Crandall Chargers this season, while they hosted the STU Tommies in their home openers two weeks ago.

The women’s Hurricanes enter play this weekend with an 0-2 record after dropping two close games to start the season, including a 64-60 loss to STU on October 27.  Both the Tommies and Chargers are 1-2 this regular season and tied for fourth in the ACAA standings.

Lexi MacInnis has led the way offensively for the ‘Canes in the first two games, averaging 19 points which is good for third in the conference. Jayla Verney and Ashley Plaggenhoef are also in the top-six with 14 and 13.5 points per game respectively.

The men’s Hurricanes are off to a 2-0 start to the regular season while the Chargers are 2-1 with the Tommies at 0-3 to start the season.

The Hurricanes defeated the Tommies in their home opener on October 27 at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement by a score of 121-95.

Jace Colley currently leads the conference in scoring, averaging 27 points per game including a 34 point performance in the Hurricanes first game of the season versus STU.

This is the first meeting this regular season between the ‘Canes and Chargers.

Games times for both days take place at 2 and 4pm (w/m).
